We have introduced various versions of Peter and Wolf in the class.
(1) The original musical tale is composed by Serge Prokofiev (1891~1953) and the story is narrated by the Academy Award winning actor Jack Lemmon.
(2) The cartoon animation of Peter and Wolf is quite faithful to the original work and is intended for children's viewing.
(3) With the adoption of computer-generated images, the 2006 version of Peter and Wolf has presented Peter in a more sophisticated light. In some situations, Peter even shows the expressions of malice and evil.
Discussion Question: Do you prefer a more faithful adaption of Peter and Wolf or a more creative but less faithful rendering of the original work? Why?
I guess that would depond on how old I am at the time. FOr a bed-time story, I think the original work is certainly good enough. The musical tale is indeed very exciting and interesting.

I prefer a more faithful adaption of Peter and Wolf to a more creative but less faithful rendering of the original work. Because the original work is more interesting and childlike, when I watch it, I feel relaxed just like I were a 6 years old child. However, the effects of the latter one is too acute to as a child enjoy the story and the music. In my opinion, I don't like to watch cartoons with very evil or violent characters.

Actually, I prefer the second version of Peter and the Wolf. The delicacy of the computer-generated animation catches my entire attention. The figures of the characters are picturesque and elaborate.
ReplyDeleteBesides, there are some minor changes in the plot which arouse my desire keeping on seeing the movie. It is hard to predict what going to happen next. I think it a good trick to attract more people looking forward to the film. But I only recommend children over ten years old watch this movie in case it leaves negative impact on kids.
Children should not be exposed to the malice and evil at such early age than we expect. Children are the symbols of creativity and innocence. They can observe the world in the naïve way without any malice or evil. Therefore, the first version is ideal for little boys or girls. As for the second version, it is better for older child and grown-up.

I prefer the adapted Peter and Wolf of computer-generated images to the cartoon one which is more faithful to the original story. Two Peters give different atmospheres. The former Peter is childlike and naïve whereas the latter Peter is grumpy and seems to hate the world. The latter Peter goes through a few changes of mind. He disagrees with the whole world not only because he is locked and isolated by his grandpa but because he is bullied by gangsters all the time. However, later on, Peter plays with animals and learns how to socialize and solve problems. He uses his wit and learns to differentiate good from evil by himself. He turns from a grumpy and ungrateful boy into a benevolent and sensible adult-to-be! The latter adaption of Peter and Wolf has both a plot that is more interesting and appealing and images that convey more and tell detailed information.

For me, I like the second version of Peter and the Wolf most among the three versions. I like to watch cartoon animations. I think they are cute and interesting. On the contrary, I think the third version loses a kind of innocence. The computer-generated images are more unnature to me.

I think I will choose the 2006 version because I like the drawing style and the sophisticated light. It looks like the characters are made of clay. And the little boy was angry but at the end of the film he still let the wolf go. It's filled with imagination because it will make me think why he let it go. Maybe he is just a kid, he is still naive so he doesn't want to change the wold with money. He catch it not for the profit.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the cartoon animation of Peter and Wolf. I think the adoption of computer-generated images is a little scary. The personality of the characters in it is horrible and the whole plot is so dark. I think this one is not good for children to watch. On the other hand, the cartoon animation one is more relaxed. The characters in it look cute and the whole story seems more delighted than the computer-generated one. I think this one is better for children to read.

In my opinion,I prefer the second edition more. It is more funny. However, the third edition which is with the adoption of computer is more terrible. It is not suitable for the children. The second edition makes me feel very relaxed and happy. It is as if I come back to my childhood.

I prefer the third version of Peter and Wolf, which uses computer-generated images. It is much more interesting with vivid, elaborate images. And Peter’s sophisticated perspective definitely gives me something to the thoughts. Besides, I am glad to see that Peter is really growing mature and inspired by getting along with animals.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the first version which is more faithful of the original work because it is an animation and I am really fond of cartoon. Besides, I think that children who do like animation very much will choose this version because the characters are cuter than another version. Although the animation is not as attractive as Miyazaki’s, yet it also can draw children’s attention because its bright color and amusing music.
ReplyDeleteI think I like them both because there are two focuses in the two versions of Peter and Wolf. One is very peaceful and very suitable for children and another seem to aims at youngsters for its music and the characters somehow are more scary.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the second version of Peter and the Wolf which made by cartoon animation. Generally speaking, the story is faithful to the first version and also not as scary as the third version. The second version is aimed to project optimism for its viewers. It is presented by cute characters and this feature is really appealing to me; I really enjoyed watching the film.

I like the creative but less faithful rendering of the original work. Because I like the mood it created, it use a dark and reality method to present the story. It provide another view let audience to think the story. I always like different view of the story or the story created of one real story. It make me think the one thing in many view.

I like a more faithful adaption of Peter and Wolf, because I really enjoy watching cartoons. It makes me feel like I am still a little child. And the characters in the first version are softer and more innocent than the modern one. I always like the original work of a story or a movie. After adaption, the original concept may lose.

I think that when you have one that is oringinal version. Sometimes you need to innovate something more different and innovative. Therefore I prefer a new one that probably would change some of the ideas from the original one. Like a lot of movie, series TV shows or soap opera being redone due to the reason that is classic. But sometimes a few changes will bring extra surprise and flavor to the audience. For some movie might change some scenes and some character might be changed to let some actor or actress whose characteristic is not like the original one. That could bring some fresh ideas and special flavor to the old one.

I prefer a more creative but less faithful rendering of the original work. Since I have already watched the original work in my childhood, I think the same plot but different work is monotonous. I like the version filled with creation and it intrigues me a lot. Though the character is passive, I admire him on account of his compassion for the wolf. The author, though, describes the whole story in a more pathetic way, which is not a usual fairy tale. He obviously shows that no matter how cruel the reality is, the main character does remain kind-hearted.

ReplyDeleteIndeed, i like both. Sometimes it is better just to watch the original version and when i am watching it, i would think that i am stil a child and i can be Peter, a clever boy.
ReplyDeleteand the second version of Peter and the Wolf, i think it is creative but it seems not to be suitble for children and it is better for adolts or teenagers. Different ages watch different versions, so i like them both because i can get things different from them.

1. I like the third version, because there’s more emotion in the story. Although the story seemed a little gloomy, it is much more interesting. Makes you think hard about what the story is trying to say!! I like a more creative work! It’s more interesting and you can watch it over and over again, and having different thoughts every time.98540322
ReplyDeleteI prefer a more faithful adaption of Peter and Wolf since it gives me the relaxed ambience. It seems that I was pulled into the plot and played together with Peter. I prefer interesting and cheerful plot because it can reduce my pressure and make me forget anything unhappy.

ReplyDeleteI prefer the original musical tale. Because I love to listen to some musical instruments performance, I think that the original version together with the playing of many kinds of musical instruments is much more interesting and vivid. It will make the audience have the feeling of virtually being in the plot in the tale. Furthermore, having the musical tale is a great enjoyment!

I prefer the more faithful adaption of Peter and Wolf because children like to watch cartoons and they learn things from cartoons. If the cartoon is not faithful, it will affect children’s mind. The more faithful version is more attractive to me because of the vivid characters with wonderful music and it makes me feel hopeful.

To be honest, I like the second one better. The tense between every animal and the characters is so obvious. especially the dark side in the film, the leading man wanted to own the girl he liked, he pretended he really cared about the wolf and let it go. In fact, he didn't really care what is going on to the wolf afterwards, but to gain her heart, he had to use his craftiness to show he is a nice guy. That is the funnest part in the movie.

I prefer the third one. Because the third one is more refined. I like this kind of style. it impress me. It's technique of painting is more different then others. In fact, I really don't like the movie without talking. It'a awlays let me confused.
ReplyDeleteFor me, I prefer the cartoon animation of Peter and Wolf to the computer-generated images. Because the cartoon version is more faithful to the original work and all the characters are looks very cute and interesting. On the contrary, the computer-generated one shows more evil and dark side of Peter, so I think maybe this version is not suitable for children to watch at such a young age. When I watch the second version, I feel more relaxed and delighted, just like go back to my childhood, while the computer-generated one gives me dark and negative feelings. I think the cartoon version is perfect for little children to watch, and the computer-generated images is more suitable for teenagers and adults.

I prefer the third one,"the adoption of computer-generated images". I loved this. It has laughs and suspense and sadness and happiness.
ReplyDeleteThe animation is incredible, especially the cat, and the characters are so endearing.
I really enjoy the films with my classmates , as there are really so few nowadays that are really funny for kids and for students. I enjoyed just watching and listening to the music
I will recommend it to all parents to watch with their children.
I prefer the first version that is more faithful of the original work because animation version really attracts me. In addition, I also think that this version is much more suitable for children who like animations. The cute and lovely characters will win children’s heart better than other versions.

Do you prefer a more faithful adaption of Peter and Wolf or a more creative but less faithful rendering of the original work? Why?
ReplyDeleteI prefer a more faithful adaption of Peter and Wolf because this is a child book. The children’s world should be colorful and hopeful. However, the less faithful rendering of the original work is dark like a horror movie. Therefore, from the children’s perspective, the original one would be perfect. On the other hand, the rendering one would speak to adults’ hearts because it is like present society’s life.

ReplyDeleteI prefer the cartoon version because it is closely from children's view. And it is suitable not only for children but for teenagers and even adults. As for the third version, although it is presented with advanced technology, it seems unatural. In the whole play there is no line and every figure is not loveable as the second version.
